The Senate met at 6 p.m.
(Senator Tomblin, Mr. President, in the Chair.)
Prayer was offered by the Honorable Shirley Love, a senator
from the eleventh district.
Pending the reading of the Journal of Sunday, March 14, 2004,
On motion of Senator Bowman, the Journal was approved and the
further reading thereof dispensed with.
The Senate proceeded to the twelfth order of business.
Remarks were made by Senators Unger, Plymale, Helmick,
Sprouse, Weeks, Minard, Harrison and Deem.
The Senate then proceeded to the thirteenth order of business.
Senator Helmick called attention to today being the birthday
of the senator from Logan, and on behalf of the Senate extended
felicitations and good wishes to Senator Tomblin (Mr. President)
with Senator Sharpe leading the members in singing "Happy
Birthday".
Senator Helmick then moved that the Senate adjourn until tomorrow, Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at 11 a.m.
The question being on the adoption of Senator Helmick's
motion, and on this question, Senator Helmick demanded the yeas and
nays.
The roll being taken, the yeas were: Bailey, Boley, Caldwell,
Dempsey, Edgell, Facemyer, Guills, Harrison, Helmick, Jenkins,
Love, McCabe, Minard, Minear, Plymale, Prezioso, Rowe, Sharpe,
Snyder, Weeks, White and Tomblin (Mr. President)--22.
The nays were: Bowman, Deem, Hunter, McKenzie, Oliverio,
Sprouse and Unger--7.
Absent: Chafin, Fanning, Kessler, Ross and Smith--5.
So, a majority of those present and voting having voted in the
affirmative, the President declared Senator Helmick's motion had
prevailed.
In accordance with the foregoing motion, the Senate adjourned
until tomorrow, Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at 11 a.m.
